FAQ
Common Questions for our Cooling Vest
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the cooling vest last?
This depends heavily on the environment, but we typically get 1.5 to 2 hours of use before we need to change the ice packs. We use these most commonly when it is between 90 and 100 F outside and are being physically active. This is about twice as long as many of the other vests we tested.
Using the fan also reduces the total duration depending on environmental conditions. On a very hot and sunny day with the fan constantly running, vest duration may dip closer to 1 hour.
How Cold is the air from the Fan?
The air typically leaves the fan 20-30 degrees cooler than the ambient air. So if it's 95 degrees out, you can expect the air to be 65 to 75 degrees leaving the fan. Environmental factors do play a big role in this so your results will vary based on your conditions.
Do I have to use the fan?
No. You do not have to use the fan at all if you don't want to and the vest will still work great at contact cooling.
Will there be condensation?
Yes, most cooling vests produce condensation...especially in humid environments. This is especially true when the fan is drawing hot air through the ice sheets. If you need to limit the amount of condensation that can drip out of the best, a small absorbent cloth at the bottom of the ice pouch can help. Just make sure the holes on the bottom side of the vest can still draw in air, or the fan may not blow air out.
Can I store backup ice sheets?
Yes! Spare ice packs store well in a small ice chest. Using a product such as "cooler shock" that freezes colder than ice also helps your stored ice sheets last longer.
